Do You Wear White Jeans?

I saw this post this morning http://keepitchic.com/ on the website Keep It Chic on loving white jeans.  The images struck me as fresh and appealing.  Of course the pictures show two size 0's or there about wearing these white outfits.  I like Gwyneth's look better. It's less studied and more practical for the mother around town.  White cotton is good since I'd need to bleach these on a regular basis being a wear my food type of person.  But the question is really can you wear these at any size?  Probably not in this skinny extreme, but in a style suited to your body?  Are a pair of white jeans in your future? Would you wear an all white outfit or wear them more casually like Gwyneth?

I liked Peter's blog yesterday commenting on pinups. Real women  with more meat on their bones like most of us, certainly as we age.  It's been hammered into us that we need to wear dark bottoms to 'hide' our hips.  Well these hips are hard to hide no matter what the color.  I am really considering buying a pair of white jeans, or making a pair if I ever get my jeans pattern worked out!  How about you?  Are you so concerned about looking thinner that you would never wear a pair of white jeans or are you ready to embrace the body you've got and damn the fashion magazines?

  1. Well, I'm 64 (size 14) and love wearing white jeans in the summer. I do brighten them up wearing colored tops and jackets as they are more flattering to my complexion. So I say why not wear 'em?!?

I will wear white jeans and have a pair. I am a size 20W. I once heard plus size model Emme state that she weighed XXX pounds whether she wore red or black. She stated that she loved color and as long as the style was flattering and the color fit her skin tone that one should not be scared of color.

I love black as much as the next gal, but it can get boring. I moved to a whole lot more color when I realized last year that I had 6 all black summer (short sleeved or sleeveless) dresses in my closet. That didn't include the black pants and black jeans and black blouses....just dresses. It was too much unless I worked in a mortuary or something.

BTW, I also bought a pair of red jeans and I totally adore them. i will admit that I bought Ralph Lauren and paid way too much for such a trendy item. I bought them because they were a more muted "heather, jeans type" red than a lot I had seen and I did fine those more flattering on me. Let's not go too overboard on all of this stuff. Color is fun and while I tend to tone down with a neutral, I am having fun

  5. This post struck a cord with me b/c I would love to wear white jeans. But I have found that it's just not practical for me to wear white bottoms. It just gets dirty to easily and by the end of the day, I just feel sloppy. I have a pair of khaki colored jean style pants, but that's as light as I will go. For me, it's one of those things that looks good in theory, but not in real life.

  6. Today was one of the first sunny days in weeks here. My white jeans were out of the closet and worn today! I've got this pair of (rtw) jeans and a pair of pants. I had a pair of white linen pants that I made about 3 years ago that had to be thrown away because it had been worn too much and was showing it.
So yes, I do wear white bottoms in summer, even with my wider hips. But not with a white top.

  7. I think it has more to do with your proportions than your size. I am much bigger in the hips and bottom than I am on top, so white jeans or even light khaki pants are generally not my friend.
I love the look, though, so maybe I should keep trying to find the pair that works for me.

  8. I wear white jeans, although I usually wear with a top that covers the hips to some extent. It is not a question of size but fit. Some woman look bigger by wear clothes that are too small or too big. Develop a Goldilocks attitude and your white jeans will look just right!

  9. I say yes, rebel against the fashion police and wear white jeans. I love them with both pastel and brightly colored tops. And I agree with Gail, that the fit is the most important thing. With your coloring, they should look great on you!

  10. My hips are as well endowed as Harvard and I love wearing white jeans. I think they actually flatter my butt more than the darks. Is that what they call positive thinking?

  11. I just made a pair of white denim capris (see them here: http://bit.ly/JqrBPy). They aren't skin hugging jeans, but they are white jeans and I will happily wear them.

  12. No, but I haven't had many chances to try them. I am sure I would if I ever found any that fit!

  13. I don't wear white jeans because I've found all of them somewhat transparent... I would also have trouble keeping them white, and I don't want to start using bleach in my laundry routine (I hate doing laundry to being with). I do have some white skirts, though, and I don't think size should prevent anyone from trying white skirts or pants. If you don't mind the upkeep, go for it!

  14. I am 68 and bought white jeans and white capris this summer - the first in a long, long time. I do remember my mother telling me in college that she heard the whole "white makes you bigger" thing was found to be untrue - and she promptly went out and bought white pants. I always thought she looked great in them. Hopefully she was right as I LOVE mine!

  15. Yeah, you're right about white on our hips being drummed into us. I hadn't thought of it that way, cause usually the only time I wear white below is when everything is white or my hips are covered....great post.

  16. I love white jeans and capris in summer. Do not really think they make you look bigger but that could be because my hips are not that wide it my belly on me. White is my summer basic like black is my winter base color. My new white jeans came out of the draw last weekend matched up perfectly to a brits top and off I went. Need to find some more shoes to go with them.

  17. Yup, I wear white jeans and just pulled mine from the back of the closet last week! My bum is very well endowed. I've never cared much for the fashion police or rules, so I just don't give a second thought to wearing them. I love love love a white jean and a bright colorful summer top!

  18. I'm 61 years old and still wear jeans of all colors - including white. I like to wear slim (not skinny) pants with a little longer top and colorful flat shoes.

  19. NO! I am not concerned about size and wearing white jeans and neither should any other woman! They are a great accessory that EVERYTHING works with! Wear a longer cardigan if you're concerned about hips...don't just give up on a great wardrobe piece!!

  20. Yes I wear them, but I do wear a longer top than I would with dark jeans. Like anything if you feel good in it then wear it!

  21. I am just too clumsy/messy for them, but I bet you will rock them! I don't think there's anything magic about any particular color, it's just down to cut and fit. And you are great at finding the right cut and fit for your figure.

  22. I love white jeans, because I have no hips, and it kinda helps add some girth to the bottom of me. I can only do it when my plans don't involve anything potentially messy, though!

  24. white trousers of any type, including jeans, are lovely. i wear them from late may until mid september with white embellished tunic-type tops and white thong sandals. i think white is a very exotic non-color and very feminine. they're also the most practical color in that they can be bleached. i, like you, share my food with my clothes.
